Best Mattress for Neck Pain: Helix Midnight Luxe

The Helix Midnight Mattress in a bedroom.

For Presidents’ Day, Helix is offering an exclusive AARP sale of 27 percent off when you use the code AARP27. That will drop the Helix Midnight Luxe from $2,398 to $1,751 for a queen mattress — almost $650 in savings. The Helix Midnight Luxe is a comfortable bed with medium firmness, making it a top choice for most sleepers. During our testing, it scored particularly high in pressure relief, which is great for neck pain. Tester Allison, a 51-year-old side sleeper, said she didn’t feel any pressure on her neck or hips.

If you’re looking for a more affordable Helix model, the basic Midnight (not Luxe) costs around just $1,000 with this Presidents’ Day sale, but it has no pillow top, one less layer of memory foam and less lumbar support than the Luxe.

Best Mattress for Back Pain: Saatva Classic

If you have back pain or sciatica, the Saatva Classic could be a good fit. Its zoned support construction is firmer across the center-third of the mattress, which helps support your lower back. For Presidents’ Day, Saatva is offering $625 off the mattress. The bed, which is available in three firmness levels (plush soft, luxury firm and firm), performed well in our testing, especially in our spinal alignment assessment. One tester said, “Overall, it solved a lot of my pain issues.”

For more information, see our Saatva mattress review.

Best Memory Foam Mattress: Nectar Premier Memory Foam

The Nectar Premier Memory Foam has the slow-moving, dense memory foam that cradles joints and eases pressure. Right now, you can save 50 percent on this bed, as well as any mattress in Nectar’s collection. The foam layers of the Nectar Premier contour to your body, providing ample pressure relief while still supporting your spine. Memory foam mattresses are notorious for having weak edges, but the Nectar Premier earned an impressive 4 out of 5 rating in our edge support test, showing this bed’s perimeter is strong and stable.

Nectar is also offering up to 66 percent off the company’s sleep bundles set when you buy a mattress. This bundle includes a mattress protector, two cooling pillows and a sheet set. It’s usually $599, but you can snag it for $179 during the sale.

Best Hybrid Mattress: DreamCloud Premier Hybrid

DreamCloud’s Presidents’ Day sale is one of the most generous we’ve seen, with up to 60 percent off the company’s mattresses. The sale includes one of our favorite hybrid beds: the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid. The mattress’s memory foam quilted cover is comfortable, and our testers said the bed felt extremely supportive in all sleeping positions. It’s also a great choice for couples because it offers top-notch motion isolation, meaning your partner’s movements are less likely to wake you up. If you buy any DreamCloud bed during this sale, you’ll get $599 of free accessories (a mattress protector, sheet set and two cooling pillows) with your order.

Best Cooling Mattress: Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid

If you sleep hot, you know how disruptive a bed with poor temperature regulation can be to your sleep. For Presidents’ Day, you can get 30 percent off our pick for the best cooling mattress: the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid. Of the more than 30 mattresses we’ve tested so far, this model nabbed the highest score in our cooling test.

Cooling covers and specialized foams tend to drive up the cost of beds, and that’s true with the Sapira Chill Hybrid. Still, it’s nice to see the price tag drop from $2,467 to $1,727 for a queen for Presidents’ Day.

Leesa’s Presidents’ Day sale offers 30 percent off mattresses, including the Leesa Original memory foam, which costs just shy of $1,000 right now.

Best Luxury Mattress: WinkBed Luxury Firm

WinkBeds is running a 30 percent off Presidents’ Day sale across its entire mattress collection. That includes the brand’s flagship Luxury Firm, bringing the model’s price down from $2,570 to $1,799 for a queen. The medium-firm bed works great on adjustable bases. It also aced our motion isolation test, so if you have a partner who tosses and turns, you’re less likely to feel it on this WinkBed compared to other hybrid mattresses. The WinkBed Luxury Firm is medium-firm, making it best for stomach and back sleepers who need a slightly firmer bed to keep their spine aligned. Our testers gave it an above-average rating for spinal support for back sleepers.

Best Mattress for Edge Support: Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Cooling

For Presidents’ Day, Brooklyn Bedding is running a 25 percent off sitewide sale when you use the code PRESDAY25. The brand makes some of the most dependable hybrid mattresses on the market, our testing found. The Aurora Luxe usually costs $2,265 for a queen, but with this sale, you can purchase it for $1,699. It has some of the strongest edges we’ve tested. When we placed a 150-pound sandbag on the edge and measured how much it sank, it only dipped 2.5 inches, earning it a perfect score in that test.

Best Mattress for Adjustable Bed: Bear Elite Hybrid

The Bear Elite Hybrid mattress in a bedroom

The Elite Hybrid is a hefty hybrid that the company markets to athletes and active adults because of its cooling design, which it says promotes recovery. In addition to being supportive and comfortable, it’s a top choice if you have an adjustable base. Some beds only work with an adjustable base from the same manufacturer, but we tested the Bear Elite Hybrid on three different bases and found the same results each time: The bed conformed easily on the base without gapping or bunching.

A queen Elite Hybrid usually costs $2,427, but with the exclusive AARP Presidents’ Day sale from Bear, you’ll get 40 percent off, dropping it to $1,456. Make sure to use the code AARP40. This sale applies across the site, and you’ll also get a free sleep accessory bundle that includes two pillows and a mattress protector when you buy select beds.

Best Mattress for Higher-Weight Sleepers: Nolah Evolution Comfort+

People who weigh more than 250 pounds need an extra-supportive mattress, usually one with strong steel coils. The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ fits the bill. It’s our top pick for higher-weight sleepers for its strong coil base and responsive foam layers, which provide plenty of cushion. When we had a higher-weight tester lie on the bed, he gave the mattress near-perfect pressure relief scores in every sleeping position.

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is 35 percent off for Presidents’ Day, reducing the price of a queen from $2,499 to $1,624. The code AARP50 will knock an extra $50 off.

Best Firm Mattress: Plank Firm

Firm mattress lovers, take note: Plank is offering 25 percent off sitewide. It’s hard to find a quality hybrid mattress below $1,000, but the Plank Firm will cost $999 for Presidents’ Day, down from $1,332. Unique to Plank, it’s a flippable bed with two sleeping surfaces: one is firm, the other is extra firm. But make no mistake — this bed is very firm on both sides, so we recommend it only for back and stomach sleepers who want a truly firm mattress. The Firm Luxe, which is slightly softer than the Plank Firm, is also on sale right now, at just $1,199 for a queen.

Best Supportive Mattress: Titan Plus Luxe

Titan makes ultra-stable, supportive mattresses for higher-weight sleepers, but in our lab assessments both higher-weight and average-weight testers said the Titan Plus Luxe provided excellent support and pressure relief. Titan’s Presidents’ Day sale of 25 percent off gives you the chance to buy one of our favorite beds for higher-weight people for less. Instead of $1,599, a queen is only $1,199, saving you $400. The mattress has 900 individually-wrapped coils and is designed to support up to 1,000 pounds.

The sale is sitewide, including sleep accessories and bases.

Best Value Mattress: Silk & Snow Hybrid

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly mattress, the Silk & Snow Hybrid might be the right choice. The bed is a basic hybrid that performed well across the board in our lab, and it especially shined in our edge support, bounce and motion isolation tests. It’s the only bed on this list with a starting price under $1,000.

Silk & Snow's up to 30 percent off sale for Presidents' Day is sitewide, along with a free sleep bundle with any bed purchase. Additionally, you get two free Eco Soy pillows with an organic mattress purchase.

Best Organic Mattress: Birch Luxe

The Birch Luxe is made with natural, organic materials and earned solid performance scores in our tests. Organic mattresses tend to be more expensive because they’re made with natural and higher-quality materials, and this model is no exception, normally priced at $2,624 for a queen. But, right now, Birch is running a Presidents’ Day sale of 25 percent off sitewide. AARP has an exclusive offering of 27 percent off when you use the code AARP27, which will drop the queen Birch Luxe to $1,915.

FAQs

Is Presidents’ Day a good time to buy a mattress?

Yes, Presidents’ Day is one of the best times to purchase a mattress. We’ve historically seen some of the most generous discounts during this annual sales event.

Does Saatva have Presidents’ Day sales?

Saatva’s Presidents’ Day sale offers up to $600 off mattresses, with the discount varying based on the model. It’s the standard deal we’ve seen from Saatva during other holiday sales, but it still knocks a few hundred dollars off top choices like Saatva Classic, Rx or Contour5. Saatva is also offering sleep accessory sales for the holiday, including up to $625 off mattresses bought with bases, pillows and bedding bundles.

What are the best Presidents’ Day mattress deals?

Big brands like Helix, Saatva, Nectar and DreamCloud are offering some of the top Presidents’ Day mattress sales. Based on our research, the best deal is the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid, which is 60 percent off for the holiday and comes with nearly $600 of free accessories.

Top tips for finding the best Presidents’ Day mattress sales

  • Know what you need from your bed. There are a lot of sales floating around, and some are more appealing than others. But it’s important to consider which type of mattress is best for your sleep needs. For example, if you have hip or shoulder pain, you may appreciate the way memory foam contours around your joints, while those looking for superior support and bounce might prefer an innerspring or hybrid mattress.
  • Keep your sleeping position in mind. Your sleeping position will largely determine how firm a bed you need. Side sleepers tend to gravitate toward softer mattresses, while many stomach and back sleepers prefer a medium to firm mattress. But keep in mind firmness is a range, with most brands measuring it on a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the firmest), and it’s up to you to determine how soft or firm you want your bed to be. If you’re not sure, a medium to medium-firm bed works well for most people.
  • Verify the deal is real. Not all Presidents’ Day mattress deals are truly sales. Some brands have been known to mark up their original prices leading up to the holiday, making their Presidents’ Day discounts misleading. A good way to stay ahead of this is to sign up for retailer email alerts to monitor price changes over time. All the sales on this page are verified.
  • Stack discounts. Holiday sales aren’t the only discounts to take advantage of. Many mattress brands offer year-round discounts for adults 65 and older, veterans, educators and health care workers. Read the terms and conditions of the discount you’re interested in to see if it can be combined with the company’s Presidents’ Day sale.
  • Check warranties and trial periods. All of the beds on this list include a limited or lifetime warranty and a trial period of at least 100 nights. However, the length of a warranty and sleep trial vary by brand. Some companies, like Saatva, let you try a mattress for a whole year before you have to decide whether to return it.
  • Subscribe to newsletters. Another way to maximize savings is to sign up for mattress companies’ newsletters or text messages. Many offer a sign-up discount that you can stack onto their Presidents’ Day sales.
  • Examine financing offers. Many top mattress brands offer financing that allows customers to break down the cost of a new bed into more manageable monthly payments. But pay close attention to the interest rate —  we’ve seen some mattress companies charge up to an eye-popping 35 percent.
