The U.S. is aging at an unprecedented rate. By 2030, one in five Americans will be age 65 or older, which could transform our economy, culture, and society. Other nations experiencing similar trends are developing national aging plans to address challenges and maximize increased longevity, leading them to a competitive advantage. The U.S. has no comprehensive national plan, but new federal efforts are underway and state and local level progress has been made. AARP’s Aging Well in America Initiative aims to drive the creation and implementation of a national aging plan to foster the well-being, quality of life, and dignity of all older Americans. The AARP Public Policy Institute recently released a report delineating key plan recommendations.
