It’s officially Memorial Day weekend, when mattress companies offer some of their steepest discounts of the year. You’ve got only a few days left to take advantage of markdowns as high as 60 percent off retail prices. The best sales normally last until the Wednesday after Memorial Day (May 27). You may find some sales extend after Wednesday, but the next five days are generally your best bet for saving the most money.

Often, hybrid mattresses include only a single layer of coils, but this model has two layers. In fact, when we assessed this mattress on three different bases, we found that the mattress conformed well to the surface every single time. For instance, when we put the bed in different modes, such as those for TV or zero gravity, we saw no noticeable gapping or bunching. Why does this test result matter? A mattress that doesn’t conform well to an adjustable base can create gaps between the base and bed, which may increase your chances of falling out of bed.

Tips for finding the best Memorial Day mattress sales

Sales are great when they happen, but they may always not be the easiest to find. We’ve gathered some of our top tips to help you find deals and take advantage of savings.

Understand which type of bed is best for you. You have various options when it comes to the type of bed you choose. For instance, we’ve learned through our testing that the best memory foam mattresses tend to be more contouring and provide good pressure relief and motion isolation. Innerspring mattresses, however, are generally better for edge support, cooling and responsive bounce. And the best hybrid mattresses combine the cushion of foam with the support of coils.
Keep your sleep preferences in mind. Did you know your preferred sleeping position can influence your comfort and satisfaction with a particular mattress? It’s true. So consider how you sleep when shopping for a new bed, particularly when it comes to its firmness level. We’ve found that the best mattresses for side sleepers tend to be medium firm, about 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, or softer. Many back sleepers may prefer a medium (6 out of 10) to medium-firm mattress. Meanwhile, stomach sleepers may want a medium-firm to firm mattress, with firm classified as a 7 to 8 out of 10. And if you’re a combination sleeper, consider the position that you spend the most time in when choosing your desired firmness.
Confirm the deal is real. Not all Memorial Day mattress deals are true sales. Some companies mark up their original prices leading up to the so-called sale, then slash prices so it looks like they’re offering a big discount. To take advantage of actual discounts, consider signing up for retailer email alerts to monitor price changes over time. You can also use a price tracking tool like CamelCamelCamel, Keepa or Honey's Droplist to see a product's price history and determine whether it's really a great sale or just a tricky tactic.
Stack discounts. Look out for additional discounts that you can combine with current holiday sales. For instance, many mattress companies offer coupon codes for adults ages 65 and older, health care workers, veterans and other groups — and some companies let you combine these discounts with holiday deals.
Subscribe to newsletters. Speaking of stacking deals, another way to maximize savings is to sign up for mattress companies’ newsletters or text messages. Many offer a sign-up discount that you can stack onto holiday sales.
Review warranty terms and free trial periods. All beds we’ve highlighted on this best deals list, include a limited or lifetime warranty and a free trial period of at least 100 nights. But the exact warranty and trial length can vary by company. For example, Saatva lets you try a mattress for 365 days before deciding if it’s right for you. Meanwhile, Leesa’s trial period is only 120 days. So make sure you’re reading the fine print if you decide to buy a bed.
Check financing opportunities. When shoppers purchase directly from mattress companies, most of these companies offer financing (either through the company or a third party) that lets you break down the cost of a new bed into monthly payments. But pay close attention to the interest rates, and beware of high rates if you want a truly good deal. We’ve seen some mattress companies charge up to an eye-popping 35 percent.
