Current AARP members who meet the program eligibility requirements can participate. Certain individuals may not be eligible. Please see the Terms and Conditions for full details.

Visit aarp.org/membership/referafriend, log in with your AARP account, and follow the steps to join the program. Once you are enrolled, you'll get online access to your personal dashboard and referral link.

No. There is no cost for eligible AARP members to sign up for AARP Refer A Friend.

Friends

After you sign up for the program, you will receive a welcome email directing you to your dashboard with your personal referral link to copy and share. You can visit your dashboard at any time on AARP.org.

Share your personal referral link with friends, family, or others who may be interested in an AARP membership. From your dashboard, you can send your link by email or social media. Feel free to let them know why you enjoy your AARP membership.

Your friend gets access to a special AARP membership offer available exclusively through your referral link.

Earning Referral Payouts

You can earn $15 when someone joins AARP using your referral link, and $5 when a current or past member renews their membership through your referral link, as long as program requirements are met. See Terms and Conditions for full details.

No. There is no limit to the number of people you can refer. However, there may be a limit on the total number of referral payouts you can earn within a calendar year. See Terms and Conditions or your dashboard.

Once a referral remains an active member for 60 days, the payout process begins. You must also be an eligible member at that time.

1. Redeem: In the Redemption Center, select the payout(s) you want and click redeem.

2. Open the Email: Look for a Tangocard email sent for each selection and click the link.

3. Pick a Method: On the Tango landing page, choose PayPal or Venmo.

4. Get Confirmation: Look for an email from  PayPal or Venmo confirming payment has  been sent.

5. Receive Funds: PayPal or Venmo will confirm via email that funds have transferred. Click to accept.

Log in to your Refer A Friend dashboard to view your referral activity, including pending referrals, approved referrals, and available payouts.

A pending referral means your friend has joined or renewed using your link, but the 60-day qualification period hasn't been completed yet. Once AARP confirms your friend’s membership meets the requirements and is confirmed, the referral moves to "approved" and your payout becomes available.

Yes. You'll receive email notifications at key milestones — when you sign up, when a referral is pending, and when a payout is ready to claim.

No payout is earned unless your friend completes a qualifying action (joining or renewing) through your referral link and the membership remains active for the 60-day qualification period.

Yes. If current or past  member renews using your referral link, you earn the current renewal referral payout amount.
