10 Remote Jobs That Are Hot This Summer

Part-time work adds to the appeal of these positions

For those looking to work from home this summer, these positions may be for you

When the temperatures outside soar, skipping the commute and working from your air-conditioned home can be especially desirable. Fortunately, the hiring demand for some remote positions is heating up this summer.

That’s welcome news for older job seekers who like the flexibility of working from home. According to a 2023 survey from AARP Research, 44 percent of workers age 40 and older prefer hybrid and remote work to full-time in-office roles.

FlexJobs, a job board that specializes in part-time and remote work, analyzed its database to find out which jobs are in demand now. Below are the top 10 part-time, remote jobs that had the most postings from Jan. 1 to May 31, 2025, organized alphabetically.

AARP and Indeed have teamed up to provide job and career services to older adults. To find current openings, visit the Indeed and AARP Career Hub and click on “Find jobs.” Salary data is from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) unless otherwise indicated.

Accountant

Median pay: $39.27 per hour

It’s been dubbed the “great accounting exodus”: The Association of International Certified Professional Accountants reports that nearly 75 percent of its membership became retirement-eligible in 2020. And sure enough, over the past five years the number of CPAs working full-time has steadily declined. The association also found that fewer college graduates have taken the CPA exam in recent years.

The combination of more retirees and fewer new professionals means that if you have the skills and credentials, you should be able to find a variety of accounting roles this summer, many offering flexible hours.

Administrative assistant

Median pay: $22.82 per hour

This role is rapidly and increasingly becoming remote. Over the next five years, the worldwide value of the work produced by remote workers in this role, who are often called “virtual assistants,” is projected to grow 22 percent, to $8.6 billion, according to the market research firm Valuates.

Virtual assistants fulfill many of the responsibilities that administrative assistants do in the office: organize meetings, manage schedules, help with clerical tasks and more. But working remotely also makes it possible to take on contract or part-time work for other employers, empowering you to work only as often as you want or need to.

Career consultant

Median pay: $23 per hour (per Payscale)

Indeed’s job postings in this field show that many of the employers currently hiring are colleges and universities. That makes sense, given one notable hiring trend this year.

Nationwide unemployment rates have been low for people age 55 and older recently — just 3 percent in May 2025, according to the BLS. But young adults are finding it much more difficult to land a job. The unemployment rate for job seekers ages 20 to 24 stood at 8.2 percent in May.

If you have a strong network of professional contacts and familiarity with current résumé-writing practices and interview techniques, a part-time career consultant job could be a great opportunity to meet and mentor younger job seekers.

Copywriter

Median pay: $37 per hour

The long-term prospects for this field are murky because new technologies, such as ChatGPT, make it easier — and more affordable — for businesses to let artificial intelligence write their advertising and marketing materials. But this summer, at least, there are still a number of remote positions available.

Many of these openings ask for applicants with a bachelor’s degree in English, communications or marketing, but you may still be eligible if you can show relevant experience or skills.

Customer service representative

Median pay: $20.59 per hour

These jobs are nearly always in demand, in part because many workers use them as short-term roles when they are between jobs or need extra income. You’ll need good communication skills and patience to help customers resolve their concerns.

What you won’t typically need is a college degree. And usually, the employer will provide you with a computer or phone to answer customer calls.

Graphic designer

Median pay: $29.47 per hour

The 2025 "Future of Jobs" report from the World Economic Forum placed graphic designer 11th on the list of occupations projected to shrink the fastest over the next five years. (Postal service clerk was No. 1.) As with copywriters, AI is cited as the reason for this decline. But if you’re looking to earn additional income this summer, work-from-home graphic design jobs are still plentiful.

Interpreter

Median pay: $28.58 per hour

While the languages that businesses seek interpreters for varies depending on when you look, Spanish and Arabic seem to be two of the most in-demand now on the Indeed board. Previous relevant experience and references are key to landing these jobs. College degrees generally are not required.

Nurse

Median pay: $45 per hour

It takes years to study and become licensed to work as a nurse, so this is not a role you can jump into for money this summer. But the ongoing boom in job postings for nurses shows this is a profession with a future, if you’re thinking about a second career.

The coronavirus pandemic increased opportunities for nurses to work from home. Telehealth nursing helps patients measure and record their vital statistics and share information about how treatments are progressing and any new health concerns.

Project manager

Median pay: $48.44 per hour

In addition to being in demand this summer, this role could be a good career switch if you have experience working in an office environment or otherwise helping guide large projects to completion. The responsibilities can be significant, though, which is why this job has the highest median pay on this list.

Therapist

Median pay: $38.38 per hour

Find therapist jobs on Indeed

This summer’s boom is not a short-term trend — professions in mental health fields are among those projected to grow the most. According to BLS, the number of jobs for substance-abuse and behavioral-issues counselors will grow by 19 percent, marriage and family therapist jobs by 16 percent, and group counselors (for grief, anger or sexual assault) by 14 percent over the next eight years. These positions usually require an advanced degree, but if you’re considering going back to school, the therapy job outlook suggests it’s a worthwhile investment.
