Celebrando Across Texas: Hispanic Heritage Through Health, Culture and Dance

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of people whose roots extend across Mexico, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Spain and generations of Hispanic and Latino life in the United States.

Across Texas, those experiences are as varied as the communities that carry them forward. They can be found in Tejano music and Mexican folklórico, in South American recipes, in neighborhood murals, in family photographs and in the stories shared between generations.

This fall, AARP Texas invites you to take part—whether these traditions are part of your own family story or you simply want to learn more. Join a cultural celebration in your community or connect online from anywhere in Texas. Come ready to move, cook, listen, remember and meet someone new.

Most programs are free, although advance registration may be required and space may be limited. Ticketed sporting events are noted below.

Unless otherwise indicated, in-person event times are listed in Central Time. Virtual listings include both Central and Mountain times for Texans joining from across the state.

 

Virtual Events: Join From Anywhere in Texas

You do not have to live near a major city to participate. These free virtual experiences offer Texans everywhere an opportunity to explore history, food, creativity and movement from home.

 

Discovery Mondays: Discover Hispanic Heritage Across Latin America

Learn about the histories, traditions and contributions of Hispanic communities across Latin America through engaging presentations and cultural storytelling.
There will be no session Sept. 14.

Culinary Tuesdays

Tuesdays: Sept. 8, 22 and 29 and Oct. 6 and 13

Discover how food carries memories and connects generations. These cooking-inspired sessions will introduce participants to flavors and traditions from Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Chile and the Dominican Republic.
There will be no session Sept. 15.

Crafty Thursdays

Thursdays: Sept. 10 and 24 and Oct. 1, 8 and 15

Create something meaningful while learning about artistic traditions inspired by Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Chile and the Dominican Republic. These interactive sessions offer a hands-on way to explore culture and creativity.
