In San Antonio, Hispanic heritage is more than history—it is a living part of the city’s identity. You can hear it in mariachi music, see it in folklórico, trace it through generations of family stories and feel it wherever neighbors gather in celebration.
This Hispanic Heritage Month, AARP invites you to enjoy four free events honoring the traditions, people and cultural spirit that make San Antonio special. Come reconnect with your roots, make new memories and celebrate together.

Celebrando Tradiciones at the Carver Theater
Thursday, September 17, 2026 1–3 p.m. CT Carver Community Cultural Center 226 N. Hackberry St., San Antonio, TX 78202
Experience the artistry and joy of traditional Mexican culture during a special afternoon performance presented by the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center and sponsored by AARP. Enjoy folklórico performed by the Guadalupe Dance Company and live music from Mariachi Azteca de América.

Movie Night: Selena
Saturday, September 19, 2026 7–10:30 p.m. CT Mission Marquee Plaza 3100 Roosevelt Ave., San Antonio, TX 78214
Celebrate the music and enduring legacy of beloved Tejano icon Selena during a free movie night under the South Texas sky. Enjoy live entertainment and food trucks before watching Selena on Mission Marquee Plaza’s original 1948 jumbo screen.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket and settle in for an evening of music, memories and community. The movie begins shortly after dusk.

Hispanic Genealogy Basics Workshop
Wednesday, September 30, 2026 1–3 p.m. CT Mexican American Unity Council 2300 W. Commerce St., Suite 200, San Antonio, TX 78207
Every family carries stories worth preserving. During this beginner-friendly workshop, learn how to begin researching your family history, explore helpful genealogy tools and discover strategies for finding records connected to Hispanic and Mexican American families.
Seating is limited, and advance registration is required.
Celebrando: Music, Culture & Community
Saturday, October 3, 2026 10 a.m.–2 p.m. CT Mission Marquee Plaza 3100 Roosevelt Ave., San Antonio, TX 78214
Close out the celebration with a vibrant day of cultura, music and community. Enjoy performances by folklórico and mariachi students, followed by Grammy Award-winning Los Texmaniacs accompanied by Lisa Morales.
Browse the farmers market, shop from local artisans, visit food vendors and connect with community organizations. Bring a folding chair or picnic blanket and enjoy a welcoming celebration for the entire family.
Guests who register through AARP will receive a complimentary event bag with helpful resources while supplies last. Free parking is available.
