AARP leaders from across the country, including a team from Texas, have returned home from a lobbying blitz in Washington, D.C., where they urged lawmakers to prioritize what matters most to older Americans and their families: Protecting Social Security, strengthening support for the nation’s 48 million caregivers, and defending Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
“Every time we come to Capitol Hill, we bring the power of our members with us,” said AARP Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy & Engagement Officer Nancy LeaMond.
Among the hundreds of AARP voices heard in 330+ Capitol Hill meetings this week were Texas team leaders, including Interim State Director Rosalinda Martinez, Volunteer State President Charlotte McKenzie, State-Federal Strategy Director Kathy Green, Senior Manager of Outreach and Advocacy Lisa Rodriguez, Senior Associate State Director Charles Cascio, and Executive Council Member Kenny Scudder.
Texas team members met with both of the states’ U.S. senators – John Cornyn and Ted Cruz – as well as many members of Texas’ U.S. House delegation, including Democratic and Republican representatives, along with numerous congressional staffers.
