AARP Colorado is inviting residents age 50-plus to share their experiences with work, job transitions, and career changes in an upcoming survey* as the state undergoes significant demographic shifts.
Many adults are staying in the workforce longer, whether out of financial necessity, personal fulfillment, or the desire to contribute their skills to Colorado’s economy.
Colorado’s birth rate has declined for decades. Experts say that by 2030, one in five Coloradans will be age 65 or older. At the same time, participation in the labor force among people age 65 and older has grown from approximately 45,000 workers in 2000 to nearly 200,000 today. These changes highlight the need for robust workforce policies that support older adults and employers who depend on their expertise.
To better understand these trends, the State of Colorado is launching a statewide survey this April that will be combined with listening sessions and program analysis. The results will help evaluate how well current policies and programs support older workers and identify areas for improvement.
“Older Coloradans make essential contributions to workplaces across the state,” said Sara Schueneman, AARP Colorado State Director. “As more people work into their 50s, 60s, and beyond, Colorado needs strong workforce policies that support learning at every age and expand opportunities for people to find good jobs. Hearing directly from Colorado’s 50-plus will lend clarity to what is working, what is not, and what needs to change.”
As a thank-you, everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 gift card.
Coloradans age 50-plus can take the survey when it goes live and help shape future workforce supports and opportunities across the state. Check back soon for a live survey link and your opportunity to participate!
*Note: This workforce survey is being conducted by the State of Colorado and its affiliated contractors and consultants. Any information you provide via the survey will be governed by their privacy policies. The associated drawing for participating is also governed by the State of Colorado, not AARP.
