AARP Heads to Capitol Hill to Protect Social Security, Strengthen Support for Family Caregivers, and Fight Financial Fraud Targeting Older Americans

WASHINGTON – Today, hundreds of AARP volunteers and staff from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are on Capitol Hill with a clear message for lawmakers: protect what matters most to older Americans – the money they’ve earned, their families, and their financial security.

AARP advocates are meeting directly with members of Congress to urge action on the association’s top 2026 legislative priorities, including protecting Social Security, strengthening support for the nations 63 million family caregivers, and advancing stronger protections to prevent fraud and financial exploitation of older adults.

“Hundreds of volunteers and staff from every state in the nation will represent AARP on Capitol Hill today,” said Nancy LeaMond, AARP Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy & Engagement Officer. “As the voice for 125 million Americans 50+, our message to Congress is clear: protect Social Security, support family caregivers, and strengthen safeguards against fraud and financial exploitation.”

AARP represents 125 million Americans age 50+ and continues to advocate for policies that help older Americans live with dignity, security, and financial confidence.
