The highly anticipated Amazon Prime Day sales event returns this summer with some of the biggest deals the e-commerce giant has to offer, including discounts on a wide variety of products, from food to clothing, electronics and everyday essentials. And shoppers don’t have to wait until July this year to score deals, because Amazon has moved Prime Day to late June.
Here’s what shoppers need to know.
What is Amazon Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day is an annual shopping event the e-commerce platform hosts to reward loyal customers. It typically takes place in July, but this year it’s been moved to late June. The name is no longer accurate; the sale now runs for four days.
When is it?
This year’s 12th annual Amazon Prime Day starts June 23 at 12:01 a.m. PT (3:01 a.m. ET) and runs through June 26.
Do I need to be a Prime member to shop?
To take advantage of Prime Day deals, you must be an Amazon Prime member. A Prime membership costs $14.99 per month, or $139 per year. Amazon offers a 30-day free trial.
Discount Prime memberships are available to recipients of some government benefits, including SNAP and Medicaid ($6.99 a month), and to students and young adults ages 18 to 24 ($7.49 a month).
Beyond the sales event, Amazon Prime members get access year-round to free same-day, one-day and two-day shipping for eligible items; streaming of more than 12,000 movies and 2,100 TV shows; discounts at Whole Foods; free Grubhub+ delivery and other benefits.
