June marks the start of summer and semiannual sales, when retailers take advantage of the halfway point of the year to clear out seasonal inventory.
This year’s Memorial Day sales spill into the first week of June. Father’s Day, which falls on June 21, will spur price cuts on items that appeal to dads and granddads.
Another reason to shop in June? “One of the biggest surprises is that Amazon has announced it’s moving Prime Day from July into June this year,” says Melissa Cid, a consumer savings specialist for MySavings, a coupon and deal website. Shoppers can expect other big retailers to compete by runni0ng their own sales, she says.
Keep an eye out for deals this month on appliances, grills, patio furniture and more.
Appliances
If you missed Memorial Day sales on appliances, you’re not out of luck. “June is still a strong appliance-buying window because retailers are clearing out older inventory before newer summer and fall models arrive,” says Kyle James, founder of Rather-Be-Shopping.com, a frugal living website.
Look for price cuts on stoves, dishwashers, refrigerators and other major appliances. “Shoppers can often stack sale pricing with free delivery, installation offers or bundle rebates,” James says.
Where to look for deals: Best Buy, Lowe’s, Home Depot
Potential savings: 20 to 45 percent off
Candles and home fragrance
“June is one of the best months all year to stock up on candles, soaps and home fragrance products thanks to semiannual sales,” says Courtney Omell, an editor at the Krazy Coupon Lady, a website dedicated to finding coupons and deals.
It’s an opportunity to not only replenish your supply but also to load up on gifts for friends and family, Cid says.
Where to look for deals: Bath & Body Works, Kohl’s, Yankee Candle
Potential savings: 50 to 75 percent off
Electronics
With Amazon moving its annual Prime Day sale to June (the specific dates haven’t been announced yet), shoppers will find an array of electronic devices and tech items marked down. “You’ll see major discounts on Amazon devices like the Amazon Fire TV Stick, Amazon Echo Dot, Kindle Paperwhite and Ring video doorbell,” Cid says. “Some may also include free accessories or bundle deals.”
The deals won’t be limited to Amazon. Cid says other major retailers will compete for shoppers with their own sales during the Prime Day event, which could last two to four days, based on past sales.
Where to look for deals: Home Depot, Walmart, Wayfair
Potential savings: up to around 70 percent off
Grills and outdoor furniture
Some of the biggest promotions this month revolve around Father’s Day, June 21. “Retailers know shoppers are spending on dads,” Cid says, so they compete aggressively with discounts on grills.
