Best Things to Buy in March 2025

Shoppers can find discounts on cold-weather apparel, luggage and cleaning equipment this month

March weather may come in like a lion, but the month’s retail promotions are more like lambs.

Julie Ramhold, a consumer analyst at DealNews, refers to March as a “deal desert” since it doesn’t have any major sales holidays like February’s Presidents Day weekend.

“March has St. Patrick’s Day, and it’s typically the month where most schools have spring break vacations, but those are really the only two big events of the month,” she explains. “Because of that, some retailers just won’t offer any major discounts.”

However, there are still a handful of promotions for minor “holidays.” These include Pi Day on March 14 (3, 1 and 4 are the first digits of pi, so you'll find products on sale at corresponding prices), when you’ll find sales on everything from pizzas to bakery goods, and National Ravioli Day on March 20. For those days, keep an eye on social media for food deals at your favorite stores and restaurants.

March is also National Frozen Food month, so look for special discounts in the frozen food aisle of your grocery store.

In addition, Amazon is holding its "Big Spring Sale" from March 25 through March 31, during which it will offer discounts of up to 40 percent on seasonal products such as camping gear, summer accessories and spring cleaning supplies.

Eager to score even more deals in March? Read on for a list of products that go on sale this month.

Winter clothing

As the temperature warms, retailers use discounts in March to clear out cold-weather apparel, from winter coats and snow boots to cozy sweaters. Buying these items now can help you fill out your winter wardrobe on a budget.

Where to look for deals: 6PM.com, Gap, outlet stores

Potential savings: Up to 80 percent off

Cleaning equipment

Retailers know that many consumers start thinking about spring cleaning around this time of year, so many slash prices on a host of cleaning devices, including vacuums, steam cleaners and floor scrubbers.

“To get the best deals, decide which products you have your eye on in advance, such as a particular model of vacuum or carpet cleaner, and track the price for the product using a tool like Honey or Camelizer,” says Kimberly Palmer, a consumer expert with Nerdwallet. “That way, you’ll know when the price drops and can grab the deal.”

Where to look for deals: Target, Walmart, Amazon

Potential savings: 30 percent to 40 percent off

Travel

The hottest spring break destinations may already be booked, but March is still a good time to score last-minute vacation deals, says Stephanie Carls, retail insights expert at RetailMeNot. “If you haven’t booked something yet, properties will be offering deals to fill that inventory that hasn’t been sold yet,” she says. Hotels, airlines, tour providers and rental car agencies get in on the action.

Where to look for deals: Hotels.com, Hopper, TravelZoo

Potential savings: 20 percent off, or perks like dining credits

Travel gear and accessories

While you have vacationing on your mind, look for deals on travel supplies you might need. With new luggage styles hitting the shelves, retailers often discount older inventory that didn’t sell during the winter season.

In addition to suitcases, look for discounts on smaller travel accessories like duffel bags, backpacks and compression cubes.

“Things like reusable toiletry sets might be a little more expensive up front,” says Ramhold, “but over time, it’s a much more affordable way to tote your toiletries.”

Where to look for deals: Macy’s, Nordstrom Rack, Samsonite

Potential savings: 40 percent to 50 percent off

Cold-weather sporting goods

In many parts of the country, snow sports are finished for the season. That makes it a great time to snag discounts on skis, snowboards, ice skates and other winter sports gear.

Budgeting expert Andrea Woroch says if you want a specific brand, check the company’s website directly for end-of-season sales and compare with prices at department stores.

Where to look for deals: REI, BackCountry.com, local ski shops

Potential savings: 30 percent to 50 percent off

Heaters

Space heaters, patio heaters and even decorative heaters designed to look like fireplaces all go on sale this month, Ramhold says.

“Some retailers may be clearing out space heaters from inventory as the weather warms, so you could get lucky with a good deal,” says Palmer.

Where to look for deals: Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart

Potential savings: 30 percent to 60 percent off
