Sheridan’s CAT Rides in the Parade to Help “Lasso Fraud”

Sheridan’s Community Action Team (CAT) saddled up for a meaningful cause during this year’s annual WYO Rodeo Parade, bringing AARP’s fraud prevention message to thousands along the parade route.

Sheridan’s Community Action Team (CAT) saddled up for a meaningful cause during this year’s annual WYO Rodeo Parade, bringing AARP’s fraud prevention message to thousands along the parade route. With the spirited theme, “AARP: Lassoing Fraud,” CAT members creatively spotlighted the importance of protecting seniors and the community from scams and financial fraud.

The float—featuring a homemade bank safe, patriotic arches, bales of hay, and bright red-white-and-blue décor—was the result of a collaborative effort led by CAT members Mary Jo George and Laurel Rogers. Their creativity and dedication brought the fraud prevention theme to life!

Despite some rainy weather, the parade drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 5,000 spectators who lined Sheridan’s historic Main Street and Val Vista Drive. Community Action Team members handed out candy along with fraud prevention brochures and pamphlets, ensuring that the message reached paradegoers of all ages in a fun, family-friendly way.

The float also received coverage from Sheridan Media, a valued community partner and strong supporter of AARP’s local efforts. Their recognition helps amplify the CAT’s ongoing mission: to empower Sheridan residents with the knowledge and tools they need to spot and stop fraud before it happens.
