CHEYENNE - AARP Wyoming and its community partners will take over the Derby Club Family Entertainment and Bowling Center on Pershing Avenue in Cheyenne for a three-hour fraud prevention event, April 19, starting at 10 a.m.

The Derby takeover will let Wyomingites learn how to protect themselves from scams and fraud while enjoying bowling, golf simulators, quarter-pin bowling, and more. The event will conclude with a shred event in the Derby Club parking lot.

“This will be a great, active event to stop scammers,” says AARP Wyoming’s Jennifer Baier. “No lectures—just action. All activities are free, and soda will be complimentary from Derby Lanes.”

  • This event is free and family-friendly, but an RSVP is required for the parts you wish to attend. To register, call 1-877-926-8300 or click here (https://events.aarp.org/event/fraudblitzcheyenne/summary).

Highlights of the Event

Bowling with FNBO - Bowl a few games at Cheyenne’s newest bowling alley while answering fraud trivia games from our fraud prevention partners at FNBO.

Laser Tag with the AARP Wyoming Fraudettes and the Cheyenne Police Department - AARP Wyoming’s Fraudettes have a monthly fraud prevention show on AARP Wyoming’s Facebook page. Citizens are invited to take part in games of laser tag with the Fraudettes and members of the Cheyenne Police Department.

Ask Me Anything Booth with Paul Greenwood - Paul Greenwood will host a booth where attendees can ask him about scams and fraud. Greenwood, an AARP Fraud Ambassador, will share provocative and compelling stories of scams he prosecuted during his 22 years as a retired San Diego Deputy District Attorney. Greenwood led the San Diego Elder Abuse Prosecution Unit for many years, and has prosecuted 750 felony cases involving physical, sexual, emotional and financial abuse against older adults. Now in retirement, Greenwood continues to consult on elder abuse cases and trains law enforcement and Adult Protective Services agencies nationwide and internationally. He also serves on the board of the National Adult Protective Services Association.

In addition to these events, attendees can participate in fraud-prevention escape rooms, play pool, play quarter pins, play football simulators, and more.

Attendees are also encouraged to get their AARP Fraud Prevention Passport stamped and enter to win door prizes. Attendees can complete four activities to enter for the grand prize by

  • Asking Greenwood a question
  • Competing in a round of hyper bowling, quarterpin bowling, or pony bowling
  • Playing the Fraud Simulator or fraud prevention pool
  • Play a round of laser tag, escape room, or the fraud bingo
  • Get a free soda, coffee, or water at the cafe.
