Step Into Better Health: Join Walk with a Doc in Madison
What if improving your health was as simple as taking a walk and having a conversation?
That’s the idea behind Walk with a Doc, a free, welcoming program that brings community members together to move, learn, and connect. AARP Wisconsin is proud to collaborate with the Dane County Medical Society, Wisconsin Medical Society and Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation to support this growing initiative here in Madison.
A Walk That Goes Beyond Exercise
Walk with a Doc is more than just a stroll in the park. Each gathering begins with a brief, easy-to-understand talk from a local health care provider, followed by a relaxed group walk at your own pace. Along the way, participants have the opportunity to ask questions, meet new people, and enjoy the outdoors.
The program is built around four simple but powerful ideas:
- Physical activity
- Health education
- Social connection
- Time spent in nature
Together, these elements create a simple, accessible way to support both physical and mental well-being.
Why It Matters
We know that staying active is important—but it can be hard to do alone. Programs like Walk with a Doc help remove barriers by making movement social, informative, and fun.
Research continues to show that:
- Walking supports heart health and overall wellness
- Social connection plays a critical role in healthy aging
- Learning directly from trusted professionals empowers better health decisions
Walk with a Doc brings all of these benefits together in a single, approachable experience – no gym membership or prior experience required.
