Have you ever wondered why our transportation system works the way it does—or found yourself thinking, “there has to be a better way”? If so, the Madison Community Transportation Academy (CTA) may be for you.
Hosted by 1000 Friends of Wisconsin, the CTA is a free, 10‑week course designed to help community members better understand how transportation decisions are made—and how to influence them. The Academy bridges the gap between residents and decision-makers, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for safe, accessible, and people-centered transportation solutions that work for everyone.
Applications for the Madison cohort are now open and due Saturday, March 14.
AARP Wisconsin is proud to have been an inaugural sponsorthat helped bring the Community Transportation Academy to Wisconsin. Transportation is a critical issue for older adults, caregivers, and families—impacting access to healthcare, groceries, jobs, social connections, and the ability to age safely and independently in the community.
Through our work in transportation advocacy, AARP Wisconsin champions policies and investments that support safer streets, reliable transit, walkable neighborhoods, and mobility options for people of all ages and abilities. The Community Transportation Academy aligns closely with this mission by empowering local residents to engage in transportation planning and advocate for improvements that make communities more livable and age-friendly.
Whether you’re a community advocate, neighborhood leader, student, or simply someone who wants better transportation options in Madison, the CTA offers a valuable opportunity to learn, connect, and make a difference.
To learn more and apply for the Madison Community Transportation Academy, visit 1000 Friends of Wisconsin and submit your application by March 14.
Together, informed advocates and strong partnerships can help shape a transportation system that truly serves everyone—at every stage of life.
