AARP Washington Invests in Livable Communities with 2025 Grants
AARP Washington Awards Grants to Seven Washington Organizations as Part of its Nationwide Program to Make Great Communities Even Better
AARP Washington announced seven organizations throughout Washington will receive 2025 Community Challenge grants – part of AARP’s largest investment in communities to date with more than $4 million awarded among 380 organizations nationwide. Grantees will implement quick-action projects that help communities become more age-friendly.
“AARP Washington is committed to working with local leaders, advocates and policymakers to provide support and resources that results in healthier, safer, and more affordable communities for all Washingtonians,” said Marguerite Ro, AARP Washington State Director. “We are proud to support this year’s grantees as they bring about positive changes in our communities.”
Here in Washington, seven projects were funded for a total of $63,392. Those projects include:
Flagship Grants Awarded in Washington
- $15,000 – LISC Puget Sound, Seattle, WA: Helping 5,000+ low- and moderate-income older adults in King, Snohomish, and Pierce counties access property tax relief.
- $15,000 – Habitat for Humanity, Whatcom County: Repairing homes for up to 20 low-income homeowners aged 50+ to improve accessibility, health, and safety.
- $10,892 – Refugee and Immigrant Connections, Spokane, WA: Conducting digital literacy workshops for refugee older adults aged 60+ to enhance independence and social participation.
- $15,000 – City of Everett, WA: Creating an ADA accessible entry into Walter E. Hall Park, improving access for all residents.
Capacity Building Microgrant
- $2,500 – Lummi Island Health & Wellness Program: Offering home modification awareness training and assessments for older adults wishing to age in place.
- $2,500 – Whidbey Veterans Resource Center, Langley, WA: Conducting disaster preparedness training and distributing materials like checklists and first aid kits.
- $2,500 – Mt. Adams Resource Stewards, Glenwood, WA: Running a disaster preparedness campaign with brochures and community training sessions.
