The sounds of paddles popping, music playing, and laughter echoing filled Sideout Tsunami Pickleball Center during the AARP Open, APP’s professional pickleball tournament in Seattle—and AARP WA State volunteers were right in the middle of the action.

The week kicked off on March 25 with a Pro‑Am Clinic with close to 120 participants. AARP WA State volunteers helped create a welcoming and energetic experience for participants stepping onto the court with the pros. Their support helped set the stage for a tournament rooted in community, connection, and active living.

Throughout the event, the AARP presence was impossible to miss. Volunteers engaged attendees at the AARP booth, where a Seattle themed photobooth invited players and fans to capture the fun with polaroid photos. The excitement continued with a sweepstakes for an OWL Talon paddle, drawing enthusiastic participation and friendly buzz throughout the weekend.

Beyond the games and giveaways, volunteers also shared information about AARP’s brain health resources and upcoming local events, sparking conversations and helping attendees discover new ways to stay engaged, active, and informed.

For many volunteers, the experience was as rewarding as it was fun.

“I liked this event a lot. As a volunteer, it was fun being around the athletes, volunteers, and the community—especially on championship crowning day,” shared one AARP WA State volunteer.

One of the weekend’s most memorable highlights came when AARP volunteers jumped right into the entertainment. Alongside the Hana Hou Ukulele Band and the Hula dance group, volunteers helped bring music, movement, and joy to the tournament atmosphere. Their participation added a uniquely local flavor and reminded everyone that pickleball is as much about fun and community as it is about competition.

From welcoming players and engaging spectators to sharing resources and spreading joy, AARP WA State volunteers played a vital role in making the AARP Open a success. Their enthusiasm and commitment amplified the energy of the tournament and showcased the power of local presence in action.

The AARP Open delivered thrilling matches, meaningful connections, and unforgettable moments—and thanks to AARP WA State volunteers, it was a weekend full of heart, harmony, and plenty of pickleball spirit.
