Roanoke-area TRIADs Work to Protect Seniors from Scams
Two Roanoke-area police agencies have established TRIADs to focus on reducing crimes against our most vulnerable citizens: older adults. Both Roanoke City Sheriff’s Department and Roanoke County Sheriff’s Department have active TRIAD groups working to protect older area residents.
TRIAD is a cooperative effort of law enforcement agencies, senior citizens, and senior organizations with a goal of reducing the fear of crime and victimization among seniors. TRIAD increases awareness of scams and frauds targeting older adults, strengthens communication between the law enforcement and senior communities, and informs seniors about local and state resources that are available in their community. The Virginia Attorney General’s Office is part of TRIAD.
The following programs are being offered by Roanoke City TRIAD and are held at 1pm-2pm in the Roanoke EnVision Center - 2607 Salem Turnpike NW Roanoke, VA 24017
AARP volunteers will be present to share resources and answer questions. Light refreshments are served at each event.

TRIAD is a term that refers to the three national organizations that agreed that crime-related needs of senior citizens could be met by a cooperative effort. These three organizations include, AARP, International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA). A cooperative agreement was signed by these groups in 1988.

The Roanoke County TRIAD Meeting is the 1st Thursday of every month from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Friendship Living, located at 397 Hershberger Road.
