AARP Pennsylvania Recognizes Dixie Lee Rhodes for her Dedication and Commitment to Community Service with its Most Prestigious Volunteer Award
Levittown, Pa – Dixie Lee Rhodes has been selected by AARP, the nonprofit organization for people 50 and older, to receive the 2022 AARP Pennsylvania Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.
Out of a plethora of nominations, AARP Pennsylvania selected the Bucks County resident for her remarkable service, which has greatly benefited her community, reflects AARP’s vision and mission, and inspires other volunteers. Ms. Rhodes was one of the founders of a community volunteer group called Aging in Place. The program helps seniors to stay in their homes as long as possible by providing volunteers to do yardwork and household chores at their request. She has also arranged several workshops to help seniors with health care choices, tax information, consumer support and many other aspects of independent elder needs. An active member of her local Kiwanis Club, Ms. Rhodes coordinates the Sesame 5K Classic race each year, which helps provide local students with college scholarships.
“This award symbolizes to the public that we can all work together for positive social change,” says Bill Johnston-Walsh, AARP PA State Director. “AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions volunteers make to their communities, neighbors, and the programs they serve. We thank all of the nominators and especially the nominees who are doing meaningful work in their communities throughout the Commonwealth.”
Recipients across the nation were chosen for their ability to enhance the lives of AARP members and prospective members, improve the community in or for which the work was performed, and inspire others to volunteer.
