In the Nov. 5 election, Portlanders will elect a mayor, auditor, and three councilors to represent their district using ranked-choice voting. What is ranked-choice voting? In a ranked choice voting system, voters have the option to rank candidates in order of preference instead of selecting only one candidate. Currently, all of Portland’s City Commissioners are elected at-large; Portlanders vote and elect all candidates from anywhere in the city. However, starting in the November 2024 election, the City of Portland is moving to district-based elections. Portland voters will use these districts to elect three city councilors to represent them.
