AARP Oklahoma Seeks 2026 Andrus Award for Community Service Nominees

Annual Award Recognizes Those Who Make a Powerful Difference in Their Oklahoma Communities

AARP is now accepting nominations for its 2026 Oklahoma Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors 50-plus Oklahomans who share their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members.

"Through every act of service, we build stronger communities and prove that one person’s dedication can make a lasting difference in the lives of many,” said AARP Oklahoma Volunteer State President Charlie Swinton.

The AARP Oklahoma team will evaluate nominations based on how the volunteer’s work improves the community, reflects AARP’s vision and mission, and inspires other volunteers. This year’s Andrus Award recipient will receive $2,500 on behalf of AARP Oklahoma to their non-profit of choice. AARP Oklahoma will also recognize select Honorees of Distinction for their contributions across the state.

AARP Oklahoma Andrus Award for Community Service nominees must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Nominees must be 50 years or older.
  • The achievements, accomplishments, or service on which the nomination is based must reflect AARP’s vision and purpose.s, without pay. Volunteers who receive small stipends to cover the costs associated with their volunteer activity are eligible.
  • Partisan political achievements, accomplishments, or service may not be considered.eplicable and inspire others to volunteer.rs who receive small stipends to cover the costs associated with their volunteer activity are eligible.
  • The achievements, accomplishments, or service on which the nomination is based must be replicable and inspire others to volunteer. Those who receive small stipends to cover the costs associated with their volunteer activity are eligible.
  • Couples or partners who perform service together are also eligible; however, teams are not eligible.

  • This is not a posthumous award.
