AARP NY Statement on Governor Hochul’s State of the State

ALBANY, N.Y.AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel issued the following statement today on Governor Kathy Hochul’s 2025 State of the State Message:

“AARP New York was encouraged to see several standalone policy proposals to help older New Yorkers with financial fraud and energy affordability issues, as well as to explore prescription drug importation from Canada.

“However, prescription drug importation has passed the state Senate three years in a row, so we may be past exploring the issue at this point.

“AARP looks forward to seeing the fine print in the Governor's Executive Budget proposal next week. We sincerely hope she takes the opportunity to address the State Office for Aging's services waiting list, which unfortunately has resulted in people dying while waiting for aging services. Additionally, we urge her to provide more oversight of nursing homes.

“AARP believes it would be a lost opportunity if the Governor did not use some of the over 100 policy recommendations that came from workgroups across the state as they worked to put together a Master Plan on Aging.”
