Join us on Wednesday, April 22 at 10:00 AM ET for an important conversation focused on protecting New Jersey residents —especially older adults—from financial fraud.

AARP New Jersey will be joined by Shirley U. Emehelu, Acting State Comptroller of New Jersey, who will discuss how her office works to promote financial transparency, safeguard taxpayer dollars, and uphold integrity across state agencies.

Comptroller Emehelu brings extensive experience from senior leadership roles in the New Jersey Attorney General’s office, private sector white collar defense and financial regulation, and a nine year tenure at the US Attorney’s Office specializing in asset recovery, anti-money laundering, and complex financial fraud.

During this session, we will explore:

  • Common forms of financial fraud targeting older adults
  • Fraud, waste, and financial misconduct within nursing homes and long-term care institutions
  • The role of the Office of the State Comptroller in uncovering and preventing fraud, waste, and abuse in government spending.

Speakers:

  • Introduction: Chris Widelo, AARP New Jersey Director
  • Moderator: Katie Squires, Associate State Director of Advocacy
  • Guests: Shirley U. Emehelu, Acting New Jersey State Comptroller; Robert Shane, Chief Counsel; and Josh Lichtblau, Director, Medicaid Fraud Division
