With skyrocketing property values in Montana, comes skyrocketing property tax bills. AARP Montana wants to remind Montanans about several tax relief programs.
Property tax assistance programs are available to eligible Montana property owners. Click on the links below for more information about each program’s eligibility requirements.

Montana homeowners have until Oct. 1 to apply for rebates of up to $400 on their 2024 property tax bills. This rebate is one component of a bipartisan tax relief push led by AARP Montana, lawmakers and Gov. Greg Gianforte to address rising residential property taxes.
Elderly Montana homeowners may qualify for a refundable tax credit up to $1,150 even if they do not have to file an income tax return.
Residential homeowners on a fixed or limited income may qualify for this program.
Montana veterans who are 100% disabled or the unmarried surviving spouses of deceased veterans who were 100% disabled may qualify for this program.
This program helps residential property owners if the value of their land is disproportionately higher than the value of their home or other buildings on their land and the land has been in their family for at least 30 years.
Montanans can now pay their property taxes in seven monthly installments instead of in a lump sum.
