Identity theft continues to be one of the most common forms of fraud, but protecting yourself can start with something simple: safely disposing of sensitive documents.
This April, AARP Louisiana is hosting a series of free community shred events to help residents securely destroy personal documents and reduce the risk of identity theft.
These events provide a convenient and safe way to shred old paperwork such as bank statements, medical records, tax documents, and other materials that contain personal information. Shredding these documents helps prevent scammers from accessing sensitive data that could be used for fraud.
The events are part of AARP Louisiana’s ongoing Fraud Watch Network outreach, which works to educate communities across the state about how to recognize, avoid, and report scams. To register, click on the link below, or call toll-free 877-826-8300. Registration is suggested but not required to attend.

Events will be held rain or shine and are available on a first-come, first-served basis until shred trucks reach capacity.
Fighting Fraud Together
AARP Louisiana hosts free shred events each year as part of its broader efforts to combat fraud and help people protect their identities. Volunteers will also be available to share tips and resources from the AARP Fraud Watch Network to help residents stay informed about the latest scams targeting communities. Shredding old documents is a small step that can make a big difference in protecting your personal information.
