AARP Illinois Statement on Governor's Signing of Paid Leave Bill

AARP Illinois State Director Philippe Largent's Statement on Governor Pritzker Signing SB 208 Paid Leave Bill into Law:

AARP Illinois applauds Gov. Pritzker and the General Assembly for this historic measure, which will bring much-needed security and relief to our 1.7 million members and their families.

Until now, Illinois caregivers – 1.3 million people – often had to give up a day’s pay to take care of loved ones in need. This new law, which goes into effect 1/1/24, will ensure that hard working Illinois residents have an option other than losing wages, or even their jobs as they help loved ones get to medical appointments, pick up prescriptions or anything else needed to allow people to age comfortably and as they choose.
