Fraud continues to threaten families across the country — and in Georgia, the impact is real.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, Georgia consumers reported approximately $291.3 million in fraud losses in 2024, with the most common scams being impostor scams, identity theft, investment/cryptocurrency fraud, online shopping, credit bureau, and romance scams.
In response, AARP is hosting free virtual events, workshops, and fraud-prevention resources this April during Fraud Prevention Month, bringing them directly to communities across Georgia.

Why This Matters
Scammers continually adapt their tactics, putting all consumers at risk. While adults age 50 and older are often targeted, no generation is immune to fraud.
The AARP Fraud Watch Network is a free resource for everyone, empowering you to spot scams early, receive expert guidance if you’ve been targeted, and gain peace of mind knowing AARP advocates for consumer protections at every level of government.
“Fraud Prevention Month ensures every Georgian has access to trustworthy information and resources. Fraud prevention is about action,” says Vanessa J. Payne, AARP Georgia’s state director. “When AARP is present in communities with trusted tools and local events, we’re empowering neighbors to protect themselves and one another.”
