Remembering AARP FL Volunteer Bill Ternent
AARP Florida is saddened to announce the passing of long-time volunteer and advocate Bill Ternent. Ternent, 92, volunteered with AARP Florida for 25 years, predominantly in the Daytona area. Before joining AARP as a volunteer, he served in the Korean War and had a distinguished career as a professor and administrator in colleges across the country, such as Howard University and North Central Technical College in Wisconsin.
Ternent was a huge voice in the communities he served. In his time as a volunteer, he served on AARP's Executive Council, led local AARP chapters in Volusia County, spoke locally on fraud prevention with AARP's Speaker's Bureau, and travelled to Tallahassee to advocate for key legislation. He was also a devoted primary caregiver to his wife, Jan.
"Bill will forever be a part of AARP Florida's legacy," said Jeff Johnson, AARP Florida State Director. "He made a lasting impression on our staff members, fellow volunteers, and the communities he impacted. He will be deeply missed, but he leaves behind a permanent footprint in our state."
