AARP Fraud Ambassador Paul Greenwood will visit Delaware to help Delawareans avoid fraud and scams on April 22, 2026. The event will take place at Riverfront Events in Wilmington and includes a complimentary plated luncheon from 11 – 1:30. Attendees will hear his cautionary tales and have a chance to ask him questions. You will leave well-equipped to prevent fraud and scams for yourself and your family.
As an AARP Fraud Ambassador, he will share provocative and compelling stories of scams he prosecuted during his 22 years as a retired San Diego Deputy District Attorney.
Greenwood led the San Diego Elder Abuse Prosecution Unit for many years, and has prosecuted 750 felony cases involving physical, sexual, emotional and financial abuse against seniors. Now in retirement, Greenwood continues to consult on elder abuse cases and trains law enforcement and Adult Protective Services agencies nationwide and internationally. He also serves on the board of the National Adult Protective Services Association.
Reported losses from fraud are much higher for older victims. According to the FTC, people age 70-79 lost $803 billion; and people over age 80 lost $1,450 billion in 2023.
Greenwood used humor and personal connection for a riveting and memorable presentation. Some key cases he highlighted involved nursing home fraud, isolation of older adults, and even theft of pianos as a scam.
His stories are not just cautionary tales; they are a call to action for law enforcement, regulators, consumers and the media to join forces in the fight against fraud.
The event will be held at Riverfront Events at Hyatt Place in Wilmington, and includes a complimentary luncheon.
