National movement goes local in Montbello
Denver Black Aging Summit to highlight new community initiatives
On June 24, Aging While Black, a national movement reimagining how Black communities experience aging, will host the Denver Black Aging Summit* at True Light Baptist Church in the historic Montbello neighborhood.
The summit is an opportunity for community members to learn about Aging While Black, center the voices of African American and Black elders, and introduce three community initiatives focused on helping older Coloradans build tech skills, assisting elders and caregivers in navigating local supports, and cultivating culturally grounded spaces and places for intergenerational gathering.
Sponsored in part by AARP Colorado, the Summit addresses key issues affecting aging in place, wellness, and more.
“Community and connection are aspects of life that make our towns and cities livable,” Marissa Volpe, director of outreach, said. “Ensuring that older Coloradans in Montbello and other Denver neighborhoods have access to the services they need is critical.”
The event is in-person from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 24. It is free to attend and is open to the community, but registration* is required.
