A 2023 AARP survey found that while 59 percent of older Americans believe they’re ready for an emergency, less than a third have created emergency plans in the event of a natural disaster.

As wildfire risk becomes more common, the Colorado Springs Fire Department is assessing residents’ emergency preparedness and asking the community to complete a survey* that will help plan for disasters, allocate resources, develop educational campaigns and more.

What the Survey Covers

The survey asks about topics that affect every household in Colorado Springs:

  • Your household’s current level of emergency preparedness
  • Which hazards concern you most—wildfire, severe storms, flooding, power outages, and more
  • Whether you have an evacuation plan and know your routes
  • How you receive emergency alerts and what communication methods work best for you
  • What CSFD services and education programs would be most valuable to your family
  • Barriers that may have prevented you from preparing—so CSFD can address them
