For Arkansas Veteran, a New Kind of Service
Stevie Smith, a retired U.S. Army logistics officer, is the new lead for the AARP Arkansas veterans team. In the role, Smith, 55, organizes meetings, speakers, community service projects and other activities geared toward former service members.
More than a quarter of U.S. veterans are AARP members, and the organization offers resources for veterans on topics such as caregiving and securing earned benefits (see aarp.org/veterans).
Smith, a McGehee native, wants to help veterans get involved in state advocacy and recruit more AARP members in their 50s.
