On behalf of AARP Arizona’s nearly 900,000 members, we enthusiastically endorse Proposition 479. AARP has a long history of supporting initiatives to expand public transportation to make communities more accessible for individuals of all ages.
A multi-year effort by AARP Arizona and other stakeholders to improve Maricopa County’s transportation system culminated in the bipartisan passage of authorizing legislation to certify Proposition 479 for approval by Arizona voters in the November 2024 election.
“We believe in a multi-modal approach to transportation, as we support livable communities across the state, so that the places we live enable people to both grow up and grow old in. As people age, however, they are more likely to become isolated, and as such, we need to help provide additional ways in which older Arizonans can participate in social activities including getting in their cars,” said Dana Marie Kennedy, AARP AZ State Director.
Reliable, accessible, and affordable transportation is imperative for positive health outcomes. Therefore, AARP Arizona believes all Arizonans should have access to transportation options to connect with their community and the services they need. We endorse Proposition 479 as a means to accomplish those objectives.
