Fraud continues to threaten families across the country — and here in Alaska, the impact is real.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, 4,236 Alaska fraud reports totaled $22.3 million stolen by fraud in 2025, with the most common scams involving impostor scams, where criminals pretend to be someone you trust—such as a government agency (like the IRS or Social Security), a business, a tech company, a utility provider, or even a family member—in order to create fear, urgency, or excitement and trick you into sending money or sharing personal information.
In response, AARP is hosting free in-person and virtual events, workshops, and fraud-prevention resources this April during Fraud Prevention Month. All events are in-person only at the locations listed.
