Within Our Reach: Ending the Mental Health Crisis

According to the National Institute of Mental Health an estimated 26.2 percent of Americans ages 18 and older — about one in four adults — suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year.   

Despite clear statistics that mental health disease is common, a mental health diagnosis still bears a dark stigma.   Fighting to shine light and bring understanding to the disease is former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

Since 1971, Mrs. Carter has been a driving force in the field of mental health awareness on the state, national and global stage.  Speaking to Prime Time Radio host Mike Cuthbert, about her new book, "Within Our Reach: Ending the Mental Health Crisis," Mrs. Carter details a mental health care system that is fractured - where despite breakthroughs in medical advancements concerning mental health, the system continues to fail the majority of those it seeks to help.
