The U.S. Postal Service observes 11 official holidays annually, including Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which falls on Monday, Jan. 19, this year. Post offices will be closed on that date, and the Postal Service will not deliver regular mail or packages.
Here are the Postal Service holidays for 2026:
- New Year’s Day: Thursday, Jan. 1
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Monday, Jan. 19
- Presidents’ Day: Monday, Feb. 16
- Memorial Day: Monday, May 25
- Juneteenth National Independence Day: Friday, June 19
- Independence Day: Saturday, July 4
- Labor Day: Monday, Sept. 7
- Columbus Day: Monday, Oct. 12
- Veterans Day: Wednesday, Nov. 11
- Thanksgiving: Thursday, Nov. 26
- Christmas: Friday, Dec. 25
Even when brick-and-mortar facilities are closed, some post office services are available online 24/7, including on holidays. With a USPS.com account, you can order stamps, print shipping labels, order boxes and other mail supplies, and request package pickups.
Stamps are also sold at most major supermarkets, pharmacies and office supply stores, which are open on some federal holidays.
FedEx and UPS holidays
Other major delivery companies set their own schedules and operate partially or in full on some federal holidays.
Most FedEx services operate normally on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and FedEx Office retail locations will be open. UPS does not pick up or deliver on Martin Luther King Jr. Day except for urgent and critical deliveries, and UPS Stores may be closed — contact your local store for details.
