Kathy Stokes, Senior Director, Fraud Prevention Programs, AARP Fraud Watch Network

Kathy Stokes is a nationally recognized leader in fraud prevention. She leads AARP’s fraud strategy and heads the AARP Fraud Watch Network, which focuses on prevention through education and systemic change and on supporting fraud victims.

Kathy has led her team in launching a national campaign to change the narrative around fraud victimization and creating a simplified educational effort to help people recognize and prevent fraud (www.aarp.org/pause). She also guided AARP in becoming a founding member of the National Elder Fraud Coordination Center, a public‑private partnership that supports law enforcement in investigating elder fraud. She is also an advisor to the board of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators and to the Senior Issues Committee of the North American Securities Administrators Association. She also serves as Board Chair to the National Elder Fraud Coordination Center and is on the board of the North America Chapter of the Global Anti-Scam Alliance.

Kathy has a master’s in American Government from The Johns Hopkins University and a BA from the University of Pittsburgh in Rhetoric and Communication.

Amy Nofziger serves as Senior Director of Fraud Victim Support for the AARP Fraud Watch Network, where she has dedicated more than two decades to protecting consumers and supporting victims of fraud. A nationally recognized leader in fraud prevention, Amy oversees the AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline, a free, nationwide resource for anyone seeking guidance following a scam or reporting fraud concerns. Her expertise has been featured by major media outlets, including The New York Times, the Today show, CBS Evening News, Live with Kelly and Mark and Good Morning America.

Amy holds a bachelor’s degree in criminology and sociology, a Master of Arts with a specialization in leadership, and is a Certified Fraud Examiner.

Doug Shadel

Doug Shadel, external speaker for the AARP Fraud Watch Network, is the former State Director for AARP Washington. As a former fraud investigator and lead researcher for AARP’s Fraud Watch Network, Shadel has authored numerous articles, academic studies, and books about how scammers conduct their operations and who is most likely to become a victim. He has served as an expert witness in criminal fraud trials for the U.S. Department of Justice, testified before Congress on the rise of fraud in the U.S., and writes a regular column for AARP the Magazine.

Paul Greenwood, External Speaker, Elder Abuse

Paul Greenwood

Paul Greenwood is a retired San Diego Deputy District Attorney where he headed up the Elder Abuse Prosecution Unit for 22 years. He has prosecuted over 750 felony cases of physical, sexual, emotional and financial elder abuse. Paul now spends much of his post-retirement time consulting on elder abuse cases and providing trainings to law enforcement and Adult Protective Services agencies across the country and internationally. He is also a criminal justice board member of National Adult Protective Services Association.
