In our previous activity, you explored ways to reduce expenses. However, cutting costs isn't the only way to save money! Now, let's shift our focus to the earnings you can generate through apps and reward programs, which can also boost your savings.

To assist you, we've outlined nine actions to help you discover additional funds you're entitled to. Remember, even taking action on just one or two of these is an important step in the right direction.

1. Learn how your credit card rewards work

You may be entitled to cash back, points or other rewards when using your credit cards. Look up your card agreements to see if you’re eligible. (Some cards require you to activate specific rewards at different times of the year.)

2. Sign up for a restaurant’s app

Many restaurants reward frequent customers with loyalty points that they can cash in for free food. If you’re going to eat there regularly, take advantage of this free money.

3. Download your grocery store’s app

You don’t have to spend time clipping coupons anymore to save money at the supermarket. Many grocery stores offer discounts and even savings customized to your spending habits through mobile apps.

4. Download a cash back app

If you’re going to buy something, why not get a discount or earn a rebate that you can use later? Apps like Rakuten, Fetch and Ibotta reward you when you shop at certain retailers.

5. Check out using an online shopping portal

These ecommerce sites let shoppers earn points when they frequent retailers through their portal. See if your credit card gives you rewards for shopping through a portal or checkout site like TopCashback, Extrabux.com or Mr. Rebates.

6. Buy a discounted gift card

Did you know you might be able to score a $20 gift card for just $18? If you’re buying multiple gift cards, such as for birthdays or holidays, those small savings can add up. Visit a resale gift card site such as Card Depot, CardCash.com or GiftCards.com to find discounted gift cards for some of your favorite retailers.

7. Join AARP

In addition to offering advocacy and information, an AARP membership provides discounts on dining, travel, food delivery and prescription drugs.

8. Sell a used item online

Post an item you no longer use on a resale site such as Facebook marketplace, Ebay or Poshmark. You can sell a wide variety of items, such as home goods, sporting equipment, clothing, children’s toys, furniture, beauty products, pet supplies and more.

9. Cash in on your receipts

Download a receipt-sharing app such as CoinOut,Fetch or Pogo. These apps allow you to scan your receipts from select retailers and, in return, receive rewards such as gift cards or cash back.

What would you do if you had an additional $25 a week? Take 15 minutes to write down your answer. And take a moment to decide on and commit to at least one strategy to help you save through either money-saving apps or rewards programs.
