Over 11,000 COVID-19 tests were recalled by Detect Inc. for having an increased chance of displaying a false negative result.

In a statement released by the Food and Drug Administration, the company said although it has not received any reports of false negatives, it decided to recall the tests after a “thorough investigation to identify this issue.” The reliability of a positive test result is not affected.

The 11,102 recalled tests were shipped to consumers between July 26 and Aug. 26, 2022, and have a “use by” date of Jan. 1, 2023. The affected lot numbers, found on the side of each test box, are HB264, HY263 and HY264.

Detect is notifying all customers and distributors affected by the recall. Anyone who has unused recalled tests should throw them out. The outer packaging is recyclable while all test components can go in the regular trash.

Detect will issue a refund for the affected tests after customers acknowledge receipt of the recall-related communication and confirm that any tests in their possession have been thrown away.

For further assistance or additional questions, consumers may contact Detect’s customer support team at 855-322-3692 toll-free or e-mail support@detect.com.

Households may order up to four COVID tests for free at CovidTests.gov, a program that had shut down in September.
