Fake profiles and romance scams are among the most common concerns with online dating.
SeniorMatch, a dating platform for older adults available as a site and app, has protections in place to weed out scammers from the start, like live camera verification to confirm a user’s face matches their uploaded photos. No other online dating app for older adults that we tested has such robust anti-fraud features built in. And in 2025, when we surveyed 300 adults ages 50 and older who’d used an online dating platform recently, 75 percent of SeniorMatch users said they chose it because of its reputation for safety and security.
In this SeniorMatch review, we’ll break down how to use the site, how it performed during our testing and how its membership pricing stacks up to other online dating sites. Read on to decide if SeniorMatch is right for you.
How does SeniorMatch work?
SeniorMatch is one of the most popular dating sites for adults over 50, with an estimated 2.1 million active users, according to its website. It scored the highest of any dating site we tested for factors like inclusivity, value and match quality. That’s why it snagged the top overall spot on our list of the best online dating sites for seniors.
Like the other dating platforms we’ve tested, SeniorMatch offers free and premium membership options. The free membership lets you search matches by age, gender and location. You can send “winks” to express interest and reply to messages, but initiating messages is unlocked only with a paid membership. One tester said the premium features “seemed nice overall but not necessary” for using the site.
To message back and forth on SeniorMatch, at least one person must have a Premium account. Free accounts can only reply to messages sent by Premium users and send “winks.” The site has a list of responses (“Great profile — let’s talk!”) to send with your wink.
Several other features are locked behind the paywall. For example, a Premium SeniorMatch account provides advanced filters that let you search for matches by lifestyle and interests. You also can see who viewed and “liked” your profile, get unlimited “likes” and swipes, and get access to profile tools that allow you to browse anonymously or change your username.
SeniorMatch users looking to casually date
All SeniorMatch users in our survey of 300 adults ages 50 and older rely on the service to casually date and meet new people (as opposed to making friends, finding a long-term romantic partner or engaging in sexual relationships). eHarmony users in our survey, by comparison, were more divided, with around 41 percent looking to date casually and 41 percent searching for a romantic partner.
Unlike some online dating platforms for older adults, SeniorMatch lets you choose whether you’re looking to date or just make friends. The ability to look for friends is an important option, since adults ages 45 and older are lonelier than ever, according to a 2025 AARP survey.
SeniorMatch offers the opportunity to join or host events in your area for members. Options include activities like hikes, game nights or wine tastings.
SeniorMatch has some of the lowest costs of any platform we’ve tested. Costs range from $15.99 to $29.95 per month, depending on the membership term. Other services, like Match, have starting costs between $19.99 to $39.99 per month.

Key takeaways from our testing
Choose between two interfaces. Our testers gave SeniorMatch a perfect score for sign-up ease. The platform has two sections: Flame and Discover. Each presents potential matches with a different view and search functionality. Flame operates with a swipe-style function like Tinder, which requires you to make a quick decision on one profile at a time. You swipe right or left to confirm whether you want to match or pass based on your reaction to their profile. But before you can message someone, you both need to “like” or swipe right on each other’s profile. The Discover side of the site works more like eHarmony or Match, where you can filter searches by the type of people you’re seeking and browse profiles.
Superior profile verification. SeniorMatch includes a live camera verification step during sign-up that compares your face to the photos you upload. When our testing team uploaded an AI-generated profile picture as part of our fake profile test, SeniorMatch flagged the photo immediately. “It would not verify us until we provided more accurate photography,” said one tester. But it’s not a perfect process, as our testers came across a few profiles they suspected were AI. Still, it’s a stronger verification process than those on other sites. For example, eHarmony offers an optional verification via SMS (short message service — the technology used to send text messages) that unlocks a verified badge on your profile, while Match requires users to verify their accounts in this way.
