Chrysler is recalling about 338,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees for a steering issue that could cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles, the company said in a filing posted Feb. 27 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The issue affects certain 2021–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L and 2022–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee models. The upper control ball joint and steering knuckle “may separate and cause the wheel to fall outward, resulting in a loss of vehicle control,” the filing states.

Chrysler told the NHTSA it would notify owners of the affected vehicles by mail by April 12. To repair the potential problem, dealers will replace upper control arm pinch bolts for free. Owners with questions can contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403; the company number for the recall is 10B.

In a separate NHTSA filing also posted Feb. 27, Chrysler said it was recalling 9,433 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L models from 2023–2024 for a headlight issue that may make drivers unable to quickly activate the high beams. And on Feb. 16, the NHTSA released a recall filing for about 199,000 Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles for a potential software error that could cause the defrosting and defogging system to fail. In all cases, dealers will make repairs or update software free of charge.
