Ford Recalls 270,000 SUVs for Brake Fluid Leak

Loss of brake function could cause crashes

Ford is recalling nearly 274,000 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator sport-utility vehicles due to brake lines that may leak fluid when damaged, hindering front brake function and possibly leading to accidents.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), “The front brake lines may contact the engine air cleaner outlet pipe and become damaged, possibly resulting in a brake fluid leak.”

Such a leak can cause longer than expected brake pedal travel and result in a reduction in the rate of deceleration," the agency says. "This can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash."

Signs of a possible leak include an increase in brake pedal travel and a red brake warning indicator light signaling that brake fluid is low.

This recall applies to SUVs from model years 2022-2024. Letters notifying owners of the affected vehicles are scheduled to be mailed May 26-30, 2025, according to the NHTSA. For more information, you can contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S47.

“Dealers can inspect the front brake line and replace the brake line or air cleaner outlet pipe, as necessary, free of charge,” the NHTSA says.

For more information, you can also call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or go to nhtsa.gov.
