[00:00:00] If you told me back then that I would be watching this all unfold with such huge star power.
[00:00:06] It’s almost unbelievable to me. Scarpetta has been optioned since 1989. You know, it just always fell apart at some stage.
[00:00:22] And then about 5 or 6 years ago, I had become friends with Jamie Lee Curtis, and she asked me, she said, “Well, what’s going on with Scarpetta?”
[00:00:30] And I said, “Well, right now, nothing Hollywood-wise.” And she says, “Well, we should be talking about that.”
[00:00:36] So she made it happen. And then she attracted other huge star power. I couldn’t ask for a bigger cast.
[00:00:53] Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker. It is such an honor when I watch them become these characters.
[00:01:00] It’s like they always were. And now I’m starting to see ’em that way in my head. The TV show is informed by my books, but it’s not supposed to be identical to my books.
[00:01:10] It’s supposed to be an adaptation that is born out of my stories. These brilliant actors are going to bring nuances
[00:01:18] to the characters. You’re going to find it’s a lot of fun. People will be shocked that I’m very squeamish. You have no idea.
[00:01:34] I would consider it a labor of love that I’ve spent as much time in morgues as I have. I do it because it’s the only way to tell my stories.
[00:01:43] I feel like part of my job is to teach people without them being aware that they’re being taught.
[00:01:49] You will learn a lot about science and medicine, on criminal justice, human nature and how we’re supposed to live.
[00:01:56] You’ll learn it if you read my books, but you won’t know you’re being taught a thing, ’cause you’ll just have fun and you’ll be scared.
[00:02:06] As long as people still want to read my stories, I will keep telling them as long as I can. I don’t have any end in sight for Scarpetta unless she does.
