Help Shape Safer Streets in Laramie This October
What Is a Walk Audit?
Laramie's streets should be easy to navigate for everyone, whether you are 25 or 75, walking on your own or using a wheelchair or stroller. On Oct. 2, community members can join AARP Wyoming, Strong Towns, and the City of Laramie for a hands-on walk audit. Your observations will go directly to city planners working to make Laramie more accessible and walkable for all residents.

A walk audit is a structured evaluation of a street, intersection, or neighborhood. Participants walk a designated route and record what they observe about safety, accessibility, and the overall walking experience.
In Laramie, AARP Wyoming and Strong Towns will provide Walk Audit Booklets to guide participants through the process. The data collected will be compiled and shared with city planning and engineering, so your input has a real and direct path to the people making decisions about Laramie's streets.
Walk audits are one of the most direct ways residents can shape how their neighborhoods are designed.
Three Routes to Choose from in Laramie
Participants can choose from three walk audit routes, each covering a different part of the city:
Audit 1: Civic Center Corners
Audit 2: Corthell Hill Development
Audit 3: Harney Street, 9th to 15th AARP Wyoming is looking for a variety of people of different ages, including people who use walkers, canes, wheelchairs, bikes, or strollers, so that when these areas are redesigned, the improvements work for everyone.
What to Expect on Oct. 2 in Laramie
- Walk audits begin at 1 p.m. on Oct. 2 and will take approximately one to three hours, depending on your pace.
- You will receive a Walk Audit Booklet to record observations along your chosen route. No special training or experience is required. Just come prepared to walk, pay attention, and share what you notice.

Older adults, families with young children, and people who use mobility devices all experience public spaces differently. That diversity of perspective is exactly what makes a walk audit valuable.
