Where we live shapes how we live—our independence, our health, our social connections, and our ability to stay rooted in the communities we love. That’s why AARP Wisconsin has a keen interest in housing, and why we’re proud to support Madison Housing Week (May 3–8) and La Crosse Housing Week (May 3–9) in 2026.
Across Wisconsin, and nationwide, most adults want to remain in their homes and communities as they age. Yet many worry their communities don’t offer the housing choices or supports needed to make that possible over time. Housing Weeks in Madison and La Crosse create space for communities to learn, share ideas, and explore solutions that expand options, strengthen neighborhoods, and support people of all ages.
AARP Wisconsin at Madison Housing Week (May 3–8)
AARP Wisconsin is sponsoring several events during Madison Housing Week (https://madisonhousingweek.com/) focused on expanding housing options, updating local policy, and elevating community voices:
An in‑person exploration of housing types that fit within neighborhoods while offering more diverse and attainable options.
A virtual discussion on how zoning policies shape what gets built—and how reforms can open the door to more inclusive housing choices.
A fast‑paced storytelling event where community members share personal insights on housing and life in Madison.
A look at how accessory dwelling units (ADUs) can support aging in place, multigenerational living, and neighborhood vitality.
Together, these events reflect AARP’s commitment to Livable Communities—places where housing, transportation, and design support independence, safety, and connection.
AARP Wisconsin at La Crosse Housing Week (May 3–9)
In La Crosse (https://lacrossehousingweek.org/), AARP Wisconsin is sponsoring a signature community conversation:
Why AARP Shows Up for Housing
Housing isn’t just a shelter issue—it’s a community issue. It affects health, transportation, caregiving, social isolation, and economic security. By supporting Housing Weeks in Madison and La Crosse, AARP Wisconsin is investing in conversations and partnerships that help communities plan for the future, while honoring the voices of residents who call these places home.
We invite you to join the conversation this May—and to imagine housing solutions that work for every stage of life.
