'Walk With a Doc' Treks Set in Jackson

Regular walks can help improve cardiovascular fitness, cognition, memory, sleep and the immune system.

Regular walks can help improve cardiovascular fitness, cognition, memory, sleep and the immune system. To help residents get out on the trails, AARP Mississippi has joined with Walk with a Doc, a nonprofit that brings together doctors and those looking to improve their health.

Upcoming walks are on Saturdays — May 13, June 10 and July 8 — at 8:30 a.m. at Parham Bridges Park, 5055 Old Canton Road in Jackson. After hearing a medical professional speak about a current health topic, participants will spend the rest of the hour walking outdoors and engaging with the medical professional.

The events may be canceled for adverse weather. No special gear is required; participants walk at their own pace. To register, visit aarp.org/ms and select Events. For information, email msaarp@aarp.org or call 866-554-5382.
