AARP Michigan Sponsors Debates for Key 2026 Election Races

As Michigan voters prepare to head for the polls this year, AARP Michigan is helping ensure residents have access to the information they need to make informed decisions at the ballot box. That’s why AARP Michigan is sponsoring a series of candidate debates focused on two of the most closely watched races of 2026: the U.S. Senate race and the Michigan gubernational race.

The first debate will take place on Tuesday, July 7, at 7:00 p.m., featuring candidates competing in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. The debate will air on the following participating stations and be available to stream online on the WLNS website, YouTube channel and Facebook page.

A second debate will follow on Thursday, July 9, at 7:00 p.m., featuring candidates seeking the Republican nomination for Michigan Governor, and will also air on the following participating stations and be available to stream online on the WLNS website, YouTube channel and Facebook page.

The participating stations include:

• Lansing: WLNS CBS, WLAJ ABC
• Grand Rapids: WOOD NBC
• Detroit: CBS Detroit
• Flint/Saginaw: Mid-Michigan on CW 46
• Traverse City/Cadillac: 9&10 News and Local 32
• Alpena: WBKB Fox Network 11.4
• Marquette: WJMN TV My Network 2.3, 5.3 and 10.3

Additional debates for the general election contests in both races are planned for later this year, giving voters more opportunities to hear the candidates discuss their priorities and positions before Michigan’s General Election Day on November 3.

These debates are part of AARP Michigan’s ongoing commitment to voter education and civic engagement. As a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, AARP does not endorse candidates, political parties or elected officials. Instead, AARP works to help voters learn about the issues, understand candidate positions, and participate in the democratic process with confidence.

For decades, AARP Michigan has worked across political lines to advocate for issues important to older adults and their families. AARP Michigan encourages all eligible voters to learn about the candidates, review the issues and make a plan to vote. Whether voting by mail, early in person or on Election Day, every vote matters.

Michigan voters are invited to tune in on July 7 and July 9 to hear directly from the candidates and learn more about the choices that will shape the state’s future.
