The 2026 Most Livable Places in Florida
What makes a community livable? It’s more than just where you live. At AARP, we believe that a livable community for all ages is
“…one that is safe and secure, has affordable and appropriate housing and transportation options, and has supportive community features and services. Once in place, those resources enhance personal independence; allow residents to age in place; and foster residents’ engagement in the community’s civic, economic, and social life.”

But what do all these factors mean? And, more importantly, how can you or your lawmakers tell if your own community is livable? These are the exact reasons why AARP developed the AARP Livability Index™ platform – an online tool that helps you understand your community’s assets and challenges, thus encouraging change that will enhance your quality of life.
Through research and data from 50 independent sources and AARP’s Domains of Livability, the Livability Index tool compares and ranks communities across the nation with a score from 0 to 100, with higher rankings indicating better livability. No community is perfect, with scores averaging between 50-70. These realistic measures indicate that even the highest-ranking communities have room for improvement.
This tool compliments AARP's major Age-Friendly efforts including the Network of Age-Friendly States & Communities and the AARP Community Challenge grant program.
So, what are some of the most livable cities and counties in Florida? Take a look:
- Very Large: Population of 500,000+
- Large: Population between 100,000 – 499,999
- Mid-Size: Population between 25,000 – 99,999
- Small: Population under 25,000
